Environmental sustainability was a major goal in the design and construction of the Sun Life Building at the Airport Executive Park.  The project was among the first office buildings in Richmond to achieve LEED Gold certification.

The site and landscape design of the project evolved out of the desire to retain two high value redwood trees in the middle of the parking lot.  A crescent shaped green area in the middle of the parking lot saves the trees, helps with stormwater management and provides a quality break out space for building occupants.

Building energy performance is 25% more efficient than baseline building per ASHRAE standard.  Energy saving features include, heat recovery ventilation, Low-E glazing and energy efficient lighting.

This project was completed by Bunting Coady Architects, who merged with B+H in December 2010.
